Message from the President

Namaskara,

Welcome to Milana Kannada Koota!  Milana is celebrating 39 proud years of bringing Kannadigas together in Wisconsin. I want to thank you all for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you at all our events this year!

I share many of your sentiments that Milana should be a non-profit organization. I have made it one of this year’s major goals to officially make Milana a non-profit. Naturally, this is a team effort. Meet the new Advisory Board and Executive Committee members  who will make this goal a reality!

Major Events for 2016

Milana in the Digital Age

You may have noticed Milana has a new website! Milana is going high-tech. Now, members can pay for events online using PayPal, Chase QuickPay, and major credit cards. The new website also has a friendlier interface so members can stay up-to-date with events, and allows us to take advantage of advertising.

To make it easier for all of Milana’s members to stay in the loop, we have the website, a Facebook page, and a WhatsApp group.

To be added to the WhatsApp group, send us an email at [email protected] with your phone number and email address.

Remember to checkout the new kannadabalaga app, available for Android and iOS Devices.

Sponsorship

Sponsoring Milana Kannada Koota is a fantastic way to give back to the Kannada community. If you or anyone you know are interested in sponsoring, please take a look at our sponsorship page. Any questions can be directed to our marketing team at [email protected]

Membership

We have set a goal of reaching 100 members this year. Over the past few years, Milana has had an average of 70 official members. I believe it is of utmost importance that we, the current members, help spread the word about Milana Kannada Koota. The more the merrier!  We are planning great new initiatives this year where members will get:

Milana is also partnering with Association of Kannada Kootas of America  (AKKA) and presidents of other Kannada associations across the country to bring new events, ideas, and activities to our members. Milana also recognizes the central importance of language in its members’ lives. In keeping with this, I am happy to to announce Kannada Kali will start soon to teach and promote Kannada as a language. Check back here for updates on all these wonderful initiatives.

I would like to extend a very special thank you to the Advisory Board and Executive Committee members. None of this would be possible without the hard work they put it on a daily basis. Of course, I want to thank you, Milana’s wonderful members, who are so committed to growing a tight-knit, supportive Kannada community in Wisconsin.  I think it is truly amazing to have friends who hold their culture so close to them, and want to share that with the communities we have formed. As Varakavi Kuvempu aptly wrote, COPY.

Finally, if you know anyone moving to the area who would like to meet other Wisconsin Kannadigas, feel free to share Milana Kannada Koota with them!

Regards,

Suresh Krishnaiah

President of Milana Kannada Koota
